Peter Hammond

PGA Qualified Golf Professional

Following a highly successful amateur career in golf, the highlights being, Carris Trophy winner, National Boys Champion and representing Great Britain & Ireland and England, Peter Hammond decided that a future in golf was for him. Having been to the Tour School 3 times, he decided it was time for a longer term career move and, after qualifying as a PGA Professional, became Club Professional at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club in 1990.

A large part of Peter's time is spent teaching the game to both juniors and adults. Peter is a talented coach and mentor, responsible for bringing on talented juniors as both the Island's County Coach and Hampshire Girls Coach. More recently Peter has been coaching and developing an Island Junior who has now progressed to full England Coaching. Three other talented juniors have gone on to become Qualified PGA Golf Professionals themselves and are all doing very well both teaching and playing.

In 1998, Peter became the Island's only Golf Foundation Starter Centre which actively promotes and teaches golf to the Island's youngsters, and in 2001, became involved in the Golf Foundation's new project. " Golf into Schools ". Through Golf into Schools, Peter travels to Schools all over the Island to teach either Tri-Golf to the Primary School children or proper golf to the Middle School age and above.

In 2001 Peter introduced Video Analysis into his teaching programme and his pupils have benefited enormously from being able to actually see, in slow motion, their stance and swing in action on computer. This can then be analysed by Peter, together with the pupil, and suggestions for improvements can be made. Quite a number of pupils have seen huge improvements to their game since having a Video Analysis.

James Mitchell
PGA Qualified Level 2 Coach.

James started his golfing life as a Junior member at Shanklin & Sandown, via the Sunday morning junior coaching lessons. Turning Pro at the age of 18, following a successful amateur career, representing Hampshire at under 18 level, Hampshire Schools Captain, also Winning the Prestigious Farnham Frigate at Senior level. Now in his final year of training, James is establishing himself as an excellent coach and now runs the Junior coaching on a Sunday morning as well as promoting Golf into Schools on the Island. After a good playing season James is currently leading the Hampshire PGA Trainees Order of Merit with 3 events to play.

James has been trained in custom fitting, rules of golf and club repairs and is always available to help you improve your golf game or give advice in choosing the right equipment for your golfing needs.

Chris Reed
Shop Assistant

A well established amateur golfer, Chris has been working in the shop for over 2 years. He plays in many major amateur events gaining playing experience at the highest amateur level. He is extremely knowledgeable in club repairs and custom fitting and is always willing to help with all aspects of your golfing life or just a chat about sport in general!
